To Save a Mockingbird

Our little nature girl had the best Earth Day surprise:  a visit from a baby mockingbird in flight training.

Dag-a-roo first discovered this "little fella" and was excited to have his very own live, chirping playmate.  We removed the bully, and in a matter of seconds...Ella and her "little sister bird" were nesting;).  Every time E would attempt to put the baby bird back in the bamboo tree where the mama and babies were, "little sister bird" would jump back on Ella and settle in.  This went on for well over an hour.

 Of course she wanted to bring "baby Texas state bird" in and have it as her "pet."  Instead, we settled on singing it a good night song and perching it on a limb close to mama and siblings.   

She thinks the surprise visit was God's way of thanking her for always feeding his creations!

Prelude to Spring

Yep, Spring is only a day away! We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate its coming than to experience our favorite activities in nature.

We watched the clouds

 Saw beautiful birds and listened to them sing


Welcomed our Purple Martin Scout

Held a lady bug

 Picked fresh veggies and strawberries

Made a rainbow ribbon wand and mini may pole

 Beautified our outdoor furniture

Watched lizards quarrel

Enjoyed tea outside

 Planted a garden

Splashed in the pool

Off to chase butterflies, search for four leaf clovers, ride bikes on a trail through the woods, and listen to Vivaidi's Spring from Four Seasons....

Zen Wonder

One of Ella's favorite books is Zen Ghosts by John J Muth

The illustrations give a sense of peace, but are still full of life. For young kiddos, the story is simply a Halloween tale between friends, but the subtle depth is about the dual nature of being human.  It's one of my favorites, too.
