Raising Tadpoles

We were sitting out back earlier this week and saw a LARGE green tree frog on the ground just beneath the rocker.  Now, it makes sense...she was pregnant.  And, all her little tadpoles took up residence in Dag's outdoor water bowl.  Ella will be so excited when she wakes up to find her new friends on the patio.

After a little google lesson, I added some distilled water and boiled Romaine lettuce to the bowl.  Who would have thought little Ella (a lover of anything that moves) would actually be learning about the life cycle of a frog right on her own back porch--and we'd be raising frogs!

Our luck...Dag will start barking, ribbit;).

Frogs

Ella has been interested in frogs lately; frogs that say, "bibbet, bibbet, bibbet." Since it's been so hot and humid, I created a little play scene inside with some leftovers from our indoor animal tree house.  She liked the texture of the felted wool (which was the water) and the stones (that she made music with) the most.  Of course one of her frogs got away and accidentally landed on her dedicated playmate, Dag-a-roo!

Fun, Learning Activities

Trying to stay one step ahead of a little girl who is learning/growing daily.

Ella has been into frogs lately and started saying, "bibbet, bibbet, bibbet" every time she saw the frog in her Mother Goose book.  I found this little song on the internet and had most of the stuff on hand to create the little scene for her.  It's amazing what I keep these days that I would have ordinarily thrown away without a second thought.

Fine motor skills, colors, sequencing...

Number, lacing worm using pool noodles and rope...
Had an extra set of cards from the Dollar Store, so cut a few in half to make a matching exercise for her.
More fine motor skills and color matching...
Bracelets:  a mostly rainbow colored foam/charm bracelet (didn't have indigo, violet in foam) and an edible Cheerio bracelet as a surprise snack after swim today!
