When we got home from the Children's Christmas program at church, Ella wanted us to re enact, so she could be baby Jesus.  And of course, it needed to happen in kid time...right now.  Troy grabbed a towel and some rope, I grabbed a scarf from her dress-up bin,  Dag was hooded in her sheep blanket, and Ella was wrapped in swaddling clothing and laid in the manger.

Season of Sadness...

A family grieving the loss of such a remarkable man, husband, son, brother, teacher, friend, and life-long learner.  We all feel cheated that he was taken from us so young and unexpectedly--yet we are grateful to have had him in our lives for the time we had.  His greatest gifts were his knowledge, compassion, and love of family and teaching, and I was always so proud to call him my brother-in-law.

Saving Coins Makes Cents

   :  :  :  :  turned into a family affair of sorting, counting, rolling, toting coins to the bank  :  :  :  :

 Behind the counter establishing her very own savings account and making her first deposit...

With personal savings book in hand, she was one happy customer!

To keep the coins rolling--and to introduce Ella to random acts of kindness--we've created a "Christmas Jar" this year.  For the month of December, all miscellaneous coins go into this special jar.  And, on Christmas Eve, our collection will anonymously be left on the doorstep of a family in need.   (Saw this idea in a book I read years ago and saved it for when E was old enough to carry out).

The Day of the Tree

Last year we got a Noble Fir tree from a local tree lot.  It was a fresh cut tree (or so we were told) and looked/smelled wonderful--for a few days--before the branches drooped and ornaments shattered.  

This year, Troy and I decided to use the trusted palm tree from our days of island living.  I was thinking Ella would be disappointed, but she and Troy love it...so do I, actually!  

Here we are weeks before Thanksgiving with the table decorated for Fall and our tree brightly shining.  Tis the seasons for turkeys and trees.
