Two continents: North America/Europe, two countries: Germany/Austria, fifteen days: April 15-May 1, 2016, 10,000 plus roundtrip air miles, 22 total flight hours, and...a six year old. Seemed daunting at first, but we did it--and did it joyfully!
Love the experiences that traveling brings, especially through the eyes of a child. Traveling gives Ella a new perspective about her place in the world. It allows her to see beyond her own back yard and opens her mind to different cultures, standards of living, and ways of life. Nothing is more captivating than being immersed in an actual part of history.
The hills were alive in Austria. Troy and I celebrated our 11th anniversary on the steps of Mirabell Gardens, Salzburg, where the Do-Re-Mi song from the Sound of Music was filmed. Ella and I surprised papa with crystal bonding bracelets from http://undertherainbowtree.com/index.html. We love the idea of always being connected--especially when we move through our days separately. Thank you Nikoll for your beautifully thoughtful and meaningful creations.
As we watched the snow fall around us (first time recorded in twenty years during mid April), Ella told me a few of her favorite things about our trip, and together we created her version of the "My Favorite Things" song. If you're a fan, sing along...

Ella's Favorite (European) Things
To the tune of Sound of Music's My Favorite Things
Michael Jackson in Munich and
Star Wars on the iPad
Flower crowns and fairy house and
time spent with mom and dad
Swans on the lake with their beautiful wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Policemen on horses and snow covered mountains
Rolling down foot hills and splashing in fountains
Off in the distance the church bells would ring
These are a few of my favorite things
Snow days and Olga and hiking up tall hills
Munich's fresh markets and the world famous Glockenspiel
Castles, giant pretzels and knees deep in streams
These are a few of my favorite things
When I fall down, and my knee hurts,
and I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things and
then I don't feel...so bad.
then I don't feel...so bad.
Tribute to Michael Jackson located outside the hotel he stayed in while on tour in Munich. You may remember the controversy regarding him dangling his child over the balcony in the background;(. |
Fields and fields of dandelions |
Munich's English Garden Fairy House
Mirabell Gardens, Salzburg |
Palace Nymphenburg tour with Olga, our beautifully sweet guide for the day.

Together, we climbed mountains, forded streams, followed rainbows and found dreams. May we "bloom and grow forever!
