Gilley's Honky Tonk

Last night's SOLD OUT anniversary event celebrating Mickey Gilley, Johnny Lee and Urban Cowboy was a hugely successful throwback to the world-famous nightclub, Gilley's..."and all that implies."

The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce transformed the Island Convention Center and San Luis Resort into the popular hot spot from the 1970's/80's, with live music from the singing legends themselves, cast members from Urban Cowboy, mechanical bull, country dancing, and...even had some people "Looking for Love."

Chamber President, Gina Spagnola, invited Ella to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime event.  She played Cajun Fiddle, alongside Gilley's very own Robert Herridge (The Little Fiddler), Jordan Applebe (Big Jordan Band), and Jason James (Memphis-based pianist).

"You mean the world to me." Ella B

Some homeschooling days are harder than others.  I often wonder if I'm giving her all she needs.  Her brain absorbs so much and craves some really deep stuff for a newly-turned-eleven-year-old.   Then, a trip to the park this morning reminded me that she is getting what's most important.

We tried out a park we've passed a million times, but for one reason or another never visited.  It's a quaint little park tucked away just off 290 in Carmine.  She had fun trying out her new birthday scooter on the smooth, curvy sidewalks and over the bridge.  After a bit, we headed for the swings.  I LOVE swinging, so I hopped on and started swinging higher and higher with my feet reaching toward the blue skies and head leaning back like I did when I was her age.  I was taking it all in when I heard her sweet voice beside me say, "mom, please don't do that." Do what?  "lean back like that...I don't won't anything to happen to you--you mean the world to me."

I believe God gives you signs when you need them most.  This sweet girl melts my heart.  Grateful God chose me to be her mom.

To Orion and back my Ella B!  #mymostvaluedtreasure
